Ghost Blips
I've occasionally been encountering "ghost blips" - red blips in an adjacent sector. When I pop into the sector there's nothing there. This happens whether there are players in the game or not. Often I will then find a ship in some nearby non-adjacent sector. It looks to me like the map is sometimes not refreshing at the tic, when an NPC moves. Can't think of any other reason why it would happen, unless NPCs are T-warping. It's not consistent behavior, so I just write them off as mysterious ghost ships of the TWR universes.

I have seen that happen before too. I thank it is that you havent moved and the npc did at the 10 min tic and you move over and it's gone but then in an adjacent sector.

I have seen the same thing, but also have seen an NPC sit in one sector for many tics. Good if you are strong enough to take it out, but incredibly frustrating if you don't have the strength and the Dreadnaught is blocking the only path to/from Stardock.
Anyone know what the max time is on a NPC staying in one sector?

Its probably when the NPC has ticked, but the page has not refreshed due to staying put and not moving for a bit. So the navmap doesn't refresh showing as if the NPC is in the next sector, only to find him a sector away or so.
Let's see if we can't get things all properly synced up on fixes. This is though a little minor concern compared to larger things we need to tackle.

OK...a different kind of ghost blip this time. I killed an Assault trader in one sector, saw a red blip in next sector, hopped over. There was a Smuggler in the sector. I only had a couple thousand fighters, so headed off to the nearest class-0, restocked, & returned to that sector - elapsed time 60 seconds? No smuggler, red blip in next sector, OK, smuggler must've moved. No problem, hopped into that sector. No smuggler there, but another assault trader. No blips, no other players in game. Searched the area & found a (the?) smuggler 3 hops away from where I'd originally found it. Total elapsed time from first sighting was under two minutes. Conclusion: Somthin's weird with Jin positioning. Just saying. It's not a problem as far as I'm concerned, just a mystery of the game universe; adds a little unpredictability to the game.
